The first general election ballots have been sent out – here’s what you need to know about early and absentee voting
The US election is under way.
By 5 November, millions of people will have already voted – whether by sending an absentee ballot in the mail, casting a ballot in person during their jurisdiction’s early voting period, or returning a ballot to a secure drop-box. Voting early or absentee allows voters some flexibility in their schedule – by casting a ballot early, they can avoid contending with bad weather, long lines or unexpected scheduling conflicts on election day.
